RIPON, Wis. - Great players are often said to be game-changers, but a select few are also considered program-changers. Former Ripon College Women's Soccer player Brandi Peltier Tinglin '15 would fall into that category. One of the most prolific goal scorers in Midwest Conference history, Tinglin finished her career with a school record 82 goals, which currently ranks third in the MWC, and is 20 more than the next-highest total in program history.
The only four-time First Team All-Conference player in program history, Tinglin burst onto the scene as a freshman in 2011 with a single season school record of 25 goals, which helped Ripon win more games (7) than they had the previous two years combined.
"Brandi changed the direction of the program the second she committed to playing at Ripon," said former Ripon women's soccer head coach Sam Schroeder. "With her in the lineup, we always had a chance to win because she could create goals by herself out of nothing."
For an encore as a sophomore, Tinglin notched her second consecutive 20-goal campaign, which had only been accomplished once in program history prior to her arrival. That helped Ripon finish with a 10-6-2 record, which was the program's first winning season in 15 years and the first of three consecutive winning seasons, which has never been accomplished before or since.
"Brandi galvanized the team and brought focus to the building process as I shaped that team around her and her classmates. I was desperate to bring in players who could compliment her, which helped us continue to grow as a program in the succeeding years," Schroeder said. "But it was Brandi who really helped put us into the conversation of the best teams in the conference and region."
As a junior, Tinglin scored 20 goals yet again. She then culminated her career with a 17-goal campaign as a senior, which saw Ripon finish with a program-best record of 13-7 and an appearance in the MWC Tournament for the first time in program history, as Tinglin earned All-Region honors.
In that MWC Tournament, Tinglin did what most great players do and rose to the occasion, delivering a signature moment that will forever live in Ripon lore.
"There isn't a better illustration of the type of player Brandi was than in the semifinals of that MWC Tournament," Schroeder said. "With the score tied at zero in overtime against Carroll University, Brandi got on the ball deep in our own half, dribbled 70 yards, took on several defenders, and scored to advance us to the MWC Championship game."
Although Ripon's season would ultimately end against a tough Lake Forest team in that championship game, just one game shy of the NCAA Tournament, Tinglin wouldn't change anything about her time spent playing for the Red Hawks.
"My Ripon College experience meant so much to me. It was my own getaway from everything else and allowed me to decompress from the stress of academics, while forming a bond with so many wonderful women," Tinglin said. "My favorite memory is advancing to the MWC Championship game because it was such a big accomplishment for Ripon's women's soccer program."
In addition to her goal-scoring prowess, Tinglin also graduated with a school-record 22 assists, which currently ranks third. Her 186 career points still stands as a school record, 47 more than the next-highest total. She recorded six hat tricks during her career, which is the second-most in program history, including a single game school record six goals in one game. All of that wouldn't have been possible at Ripon without the mentorship of Coach Schroeder.
"One of the most influential coaches I've ever had is Coach Schroeder," Tinglin said. "Even though I didn't always like it, he always pushed me to be the best player that I could possibly be."
A native of Neosho, Wis., Tinglin majored in Psychology at Ripon College. She and her husband, former Ripon men's basketball player Dre Tinglin '15, currently reside in Appleton, Wis. with their 18-month-old son Kameron where she is currently a Senior Customer Service Rep for VF Outdoor.
