BELOIT, Wisconsin – The Ripon swim and dive programs wrapped up the second day of the Beloit Mid-Season Meet on Friday night inside the Robert G. Nicholls Natatorium on the campus of Beloit College.
Ripon saw numerous individual and relay first-place finishes to highlight the first day of swimming.
This weekend's meet features four Midwest Conference schools: the host Buccaneers, Illinois College, Monmouth College and Ripon.
With one day of competition remaining, the Ripon women are in first with 402 points, while the men lead the field with 485 points. Monmouth is second on the women's side with 390.5, and the Scots are also second in the men's field with 393 points.
Ben Chambers made his way onto Ripon's all-time, top-five list in the 200 back with a 2:05.18 time in the morning prelims. Though he was unable to improve his standing in the finals, he still claimed first-place honors in 2:05.57 – nearly seven seconds clear of the second finisher.
In the night finals session, both the men's and women's 200 free relay teams claimed first-place finishes. On the men's side, the foursome of Chambers,
Ben Rahlf,
Brigham Freeman and
Cooper Herr came in first with a time of 1:29.98. The women's relay team of
Lauren Bahr,
Natalie Weidner,
Sophie Czerwonka and
Sky Domingo also took first, finishing in 1:44.47.
Individually, the Red Hawks earned a handful of first place accolades as well.
On the men's side, Freeman beat out the 200 breast field, doing so in 2:22.42. Rahlf breezed past the 200 IM field to the tune of a 2:05.20 finish, nearly 15 seconds ahead of the next competitor. Herr then edged out the competition in the 500 free to win that event in 5:11.64.
On the women's side, Czerwonka nearly broke her own school record in the 200 breast but settled for a first-place performance with a 2:34.74 showing. She also won the 200 IM in 2:21.85.
Domingo handled the 500 free field, winning her first individual event of the weekend in 5:31.24. Her time was over 17 seconds ahead of the next closest swimmer for Ripon's most dominant swim of the day.
To close out the meet, the men's 400 medley relay team of Chambers, Freeman, Rahlf and Herr came in first with a time of 3:42.59.
UP NEXT: Ripon concludes its time in Beloit on Saturday (December 2) for the final day of the Beloit Mid-Season Meet – and the final day of racing for the Red Hawks until mid-January.
