FOND DU LAC, Wis. - The Ripon men's tennis team saved their best for last Friday night, defeating Marian University 9-0 in their 2014 regular season finale. The Red Hawks won all six singles matches with ease, before combining to outscore the Sabres 24-8 in their three doubles victories.
In singles play, Eric Seiler set the tone at the top flight, winning his match 6-1, 6-0, which was a similar score to the 6-0, 6-1 victory of Lincoln Wurtz in the number three flight. Jeffrey Grinde also had great success, winning his number five flight match 6-0, 6-0. Ryan Slowinski, Tyler Hopewell and Nick Julian also won in straight sets at flight numbers two, four and six, respectively.
The Red Hawks (3-14) didn't led up in doubles play. Seiler and Slowinski teamed up at the top flight to win 8-5, while Hopewell and Brian Schumacher won their number two flight by a score of 8-2. Ripon's other doubles victory came in the third flight where Wurtz and Grinde teamed up for an 8-1 victory.
Ripon will now prepare for the annual Midwest Conference Tournament, which will take place next weekend and will conclude the 2014 season. The doubles tournament will be held on Saturday, April 26, with the singles tournament taking place the following day at Nielsen Tennis Center in Madison, Wis.
