Ripon Breaks Program Record For Single Season Victories

Box Score APPLETON, Wis. - The Ripon College women's soccer team broke a program record for wins in a single season Wednesday night with a 6-1 victory at Lawrence University. That gives Ripon 14 wins on the season, which breaks the previous record of 13, set two years ago. Currently ranked ninth in the NCAA Division-III North Region, the Red Hawks now have scored 67 goals on the season, which ranks second in program history. They have also allowed just 14 goals on the year, which is the second-fewest goals allowed by the program in a single season.

Ripon (14-2-1, 5-2-1 MWC) wasted no time getting on the board as Paige Birschbach found the back of the net in the sixth minute on an assist from Paige Pierce. Twelve minutes later, Lawrence tied things up on a Casey Merkle goal, but that tie would only last for four and a half minutes. That's when Birschbach and Kaylee Tadych took the game over. Tadych gave Ripon the lead for good in the 22nd minute on an assist from Birschbach, and would add a second goal in the 30th minute on yet another assist from Birschbach. Just before halftime, Birschbach would score her second goal on an assist from Tadych, which proved to be a historic goal for both players. That score gives Birschbach 25 goals on the season, which ties a single season school record, while also extending Tadych's school record assist mark to 46, which ties the Midwest Conference record.

Ripon continued to pour it on in the second half, as Tadych did the honors yet again with a goal in the 56th minute, marking her first career hat trick on an assist from Hannah Mahr. Morgan Johnson capped the scoring in the 59th minute.

The win moves Ripon into a four-way tie for second place. The Red Hawks can clinch a spot in the MWC Tournament for the second time in program history with a win in Sunday's regular season finale at Lake Forest. That game will begin at 2:30 p.m. in Lake Forest, Ill. and can be seen live at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/ripon/.
