RIPON, Wis. -Â Ripon's men's tennis team picked up their first victory of the season Tuesday afternoon with a convincing 7-2 win over Lakeland College. The Red Hawks won five of their six singles matches, while also taking two of three matches in doubles play.
Lincoln Wurtz set the tone for the day with a 6-1, 6-3 win at the number one singles flight. J.J. Grinde and Zach Muench were also victorious at the second and third flight, respectively, winning 6-1, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-0. Jacob Kramer and Steven Lanphier also won their singles matches at the fourth and sixth flights, respectively, with scores of 6-4, 2-6, 10-8 and 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles play, Grinde and Wurtz teamed up at the top flight to win 8-3. Lanphier also teamed up with Ben Ermatinger at the third flight to win by a score of 8-2.
Ripon will try for their second consecutive win on Wednesday when they'll host Marian University. That match will begin at 4 p.m. at Larson Courts in Ripon.
