RIPON, Wis. - In what was their final tune-up before next weekend's Midwest Conference Championships, the Ripon College men's tennis team suffered two losses Saturday afternoon, falling to Cornell and Grinnell by identical 9-0 scores.
Against Cornell (13-9, 4-3 MWC), the Red Hawks (1-18, 0-9 MWC) lost all six singles matches, with Steven Lanphier coming the closest to victory, before losing in the sixth flight, 6-0, 3-6, 6-10. Cornell also won all three doubles matches by a combined score of 24-0.
The second game featured arguably Ripon's toughest opponent of the season in Grinnell, which entered the contest ranked 15th in the region. The Red Hawks lost the first five singles matches by identical 6-0, 6-0 scores, before losing the sixth by default. Grinnell also outscored Ripon in the first two doubles matches by a combined score of 16-0, while winning the third by default.
Ripon's season will come to an end next weekend when they'll compete in the 2016 MWC Championships, which will take place both Saturday and Sunday at Nielsen Tennis Center in Madison, Wis.
