One day after being named Midwest Conference Performer of the Week for the first time in her career, Ripon's
Abby Gilbertson received the Division-III National Player of the Week award, given by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).
A junior infielder from Marquette, Wis., Gilbertson hit .750 (15-for-20) with four runs, four walks, six doubles, four home runs and 16 RBI in six games last week. The Markesan High School product compiled a 1.650 slugging percentage, .792 on-base percentage and 2.447 OPS.
In a doubleheader sweep of Alverno, Gilbertson was a perfect 6-for-6, tying a single-game school record for hits (four) and doubles (three) in the first game. Gilbertson capped her tremendous week off in style, hitting a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh to win game two of the Red Hawks' doubleheader against Beloit.
The NFCA is the professional organization for fastpitch softball coaches. Winners of this weekly award are selected by the NFCA Division-III Top 25 Committee, which has a representative for each of the 10 NCAA regions.
