During his Ripon College athletic career, “Snitz” Schneider maintained a reputation as “the most popular man at Ripon College” and its most all-around athlete. Schneider became the most feared end in the conference with the ominous call “Gustin to Schneider” which won practically every Ripon football game in which Schneider played. Schneider’s outstanding athletic skill was recognized throughout the state when he was chosen as a member of the All-State Conference Team for four consecutive years. In basketball, Schneider was no less impressive. While playing center, he was not only the mainstay of the Ripon team, but was elected captain by his teammates. Schneider’s connection with sports continued after college as a pitcher in professional baseball’s Triple–A League and as a coach, referee and athletic director at Oshkosh High School.
