On the gridiron, Hagel was named Second Team All-Conference Special Teams during his freshman season. As a senior, he was selected as MWC Offensive Player of the Year, Second Team All-Region and Third Team All-American. That season (2002), Hagel set school records for rushing yards (1,616) and rushing touchdowns (19). He finished his career ranking sixth in school history for rushing touchdowns (24) and seventh in rushing yards (2,111), despite playing just two seasons.
