John Swallen was a First-Team All-Conference place kicker for the Ripon College football team in 1986. Despite four seasons and four varsity letters as a football player, John is remembered for his play on the soccer field where he was a three-time most valuable player. He was a First Team All-Conference selection in 1985 and 1987, a Division-III All-State recipient in 1986 and 1987, while also serving as team captain in 1987. John played 11 years as goalkeeper for the United Soccer League’s Division-II Minnesota Thunder and was named the A-League’s most valuable player and goalkeeper of the year in 1999.
