William Swartz II was a three-sport athlete at Ripon College, competing in soccer, track and basketball. William was named Ripon College Male Athlete of the Year during the 1997-98 school year. As a player and then as head coach, William had an extraordinary impact on Ripon’s men’s soccer program, as he was a part of their first four MWC Championships. William, who graduated as Ripon’s all-time leading goal scorer, was a four-time All-Conference performer on the soccer field. After leading the team to its first two conference championships in 1997 and 1998, he became the team’s head coach the following year, leading them to two more conference championships and the program’s first two NCAA Tournament berths in 1999 and 2000. William was named MWC Men’s Soccer Coach of the Year in 2000.
