Kurt was a two-sport star for the Red Hawks in his time at Ripon. In football, Roeder was a three-time All-Midwest Conference selection on defense as a defensive back and two-time All-Midwest Conference selection as a punter, graduating with the school record in career punting average (37.2). He holds two of the longest 11 punts in school history. He ranked fifth in MWC history with 21 passes defended in a season (2009), and second in MWC history with 42 passes defended in a career upon his graduation. He played in the D3/JUCO All-American Bowl in 2010. On the diamond, Roeder was a two-time, first team All-MWC choice and was named the 2010 Midwest Conference North Division Pitcher of the Year. He is tied for third in school history with five career saves and stands seventh in single-season innings pitched (75.0 in 2011). Roeder ranks 10th in the program record books for career ERA (3.65), is ninth in career appearances (44) and was a member of two MWC championship and NCAA Tournament teams (2010, 2011). As a senior, Roeder received the Samuel N. Pickard Award presented to the top male scholar-athlete.
