Robert Wallner graduated from Ripon in 1983 after four years playing First-Team All-Conference level football. Wallner played offensive tackle position his first year at Ripon and then as a center his remaining three years. He was named an Associated Press All-American team honorable mention in 1981 and in 1982 was named a Kodak All-American among athletes from smaller schools
